Obviously I should do this sort of thing earlier in the day when I’m not so sleepy.

Oops, not an auspicious start! The blog address was incorrect. This one is better

Hi Everyone,

It’s hard to believe but we are heading out again.  I don’t like to do two major trips in one year but this cruise was so unique that we didn’t want to pass it up.  We took a cruise that went all the way around Africa.  It was the first time that HAL did that, or anyone else as far as I know, and we almost didn’t go because we thought we’d take it when they did it again.  They have never repeated that trip.  I’m afraid that this one may be the same way so I didn’t want to take that chance, so off we go.

As usual I wanted to give you a chance to follow the blog and not get the emails directly if you want to do that.  Please email me and let me know your preference and I’ll adjust the mail list accordingly.  There’s a button on the blog that will let you enroll to follow it on the site.  If you enroll in that and let me know I’ll drop you from the email.

The blog address will be http://2013pac-fe.blogspot.com/

If you were following the blog on out last trip I added your address to this email so you can enroll in the new blog.  If you want your address added to the email let me know and I’ll add it back.

The cruise goes to several small islands involved in WWII battles that are not often visited by ships the size of the ms Amsterdam.  It will visit the island groups that both Diana’s and my father fought in during the war.  My dad has several medals he was awarded during that conflict and I have multiple ribbons for each of them.  I also have some of the 6th Field Artillery, Dad’s outfit, challenge coins and I plan to take some of those as well as the ribbons.  It’s my intention to bury them on these islands as we visit them.  One more desirable alternative is if I can find a pub or restaurant that has memorabilia on the wall, I might see if they will include one of Dad’s ribbons or the coins in their display.  You never know.  Dad was on Guadalcanal and Bouganville as a forward observer for both naval and shore side artillery.  He also went through 6 months of jungle training in Fiji, another place we’ll visit.  Should be an interesting trip.

We leave in late September.  Between now and then we’ll be pretty busy with preparations, visas, immunizations, etc.  See ya’ll on board.
