Corregidor - Even More Pictures

4246 Battery Way and its four 12-inch mortars.  #1, the furthest away is set at 45 degrees the minimum height for firing.  #2, on the far right, is set to the max elevation of 70 degrees.  #3 is the closest and along with #4 on the left is set at the loading position.  #2 was the last gun fired before Corregidor surrendered.

4274 The magazine at Battery Hearn.  The square patch in the dirt at the bottom right is the top of the tunnel from the officer’s quarters.  The slightly uncovered round hole on the bottom left is the hatch where the crew of 4 who work under the gun’s carriage enter that area.

4279 Battery Hearn’s 12-inch gun.  It’s 17 mile range was great but as you can see it’s very exposed compared to the mortars which were in a pit and surrounded by trees.  The nice concrete pad made a great aiming point for Japanese artillery.

4312 This is the mosaic map of the Pacific war in the Memorial Museum.  You can easily see the outlines of ships and planes in the yellow area.  The rest are harder to see.

4347 The reconstructed Spanish Lighthouse atop the tallest part of Topside.
